Starting this fall, guests staying overnight at Las Vegas Strip resorts will be required to sign an alcohol responsibility agreement, ensuring adults take charge of minibar alcohol access. This measure, passed by the Clark County Commission on July 15, aims to prevent underage guests from consuming alcohol stored in minibars.

Regardless of whether children are present, one adult guest must sign the agreement during check-in. If the document is not signed, resort staff will remove all alcohol from the room. The new rule takes effect on September 1, although several visitors report having already encountered this policy during recent stays.

While Nevada law already shields hotels from liability in cases of accidental alcohol consumption by minors, this ordinance enhances awareness and accountability. Its main purpose is to reduce the risk of incidents involving minors and to avoid potential PR fallout for the resorts.

Interestingly, no specific events or injuries involving underage drinking in Strip hotel rooms have been cited as triggers for the new regulation. Still, the ordinance is considered a proactive move to address what could become a serious issue.

The rules also extend to private spaces within hotel movie theaters and exclusive skyboxes. However, this does not apply to hotels located in the downtown Las Vegas area (City of Las Vegas).

An earlier version of the ordinance had proposed locking away all alcohol, but this requirement was later removed in the final draft.

By having guests acknowledge their responsibility, the Strip resorts and Clark County aim to create a safer and more conscious environment when it comes to alcohol access within hotel accommodations.
