A Michigan man hit big in the lottery but chose to keep it a secret—until now.

Kenneth Stayt, 70, from Fenton, won $25,000 a year for life in the Lucky For Life game after buying a ticket at Sagebrush Cantina on July 19.

Instead of the annual prize, he opted for a one-time lump sum of $390,000.

Stayt said he usually plays Club Keno, but decided to try Lucky For Life that day. When he checked his numbers online at midnight, he was shocked to see he had matched all five white balls.

“I’ve been keeping my big win a secret from my kids,” he said. “Now that I have my check, I plan to surprise them with the money!”

Stayt claimed his prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters. He plans to share part of his winnings with family and friends, and invest the rest.

“This is a life-changing amount of money,” he said. “Now I don’t have to worry about anything.”

In Lucky For Life, players win $25,000 a year by matching five white balls, and $1,000 a day for life if they also match the Lucky Ball.
