Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW) has announced it will cease all sweepstakes operations in New Jersey, following the state’s legislative decision to ban the sweepstakes casino model.

Starting July 29, players at Chumba CasinoLuckyLand Slots, and Global Poker will no longer be able to earn or use sweeps coins in New Jersey. The operator emphasized that while sweepstakes promotions will be discontinued, players can still enjoy free-to-play games using Gold Coins.

This move comes after the New Jersey Senate passed Bill A5447 with a 34-5 vote on June 30. The bill aims to prohibit sweepstakes-based wagering models and introduces new penalties through the Division of Consumer Affairs and Enforcement. The legislation is awaiting final approval by Governor Phil Murphy.

VGW spokesperson stated that the choice “wasn’t taken lightly” but was made in the “best interests of all stakeholders” following legal developments. The company reassured its users, saying it remains committed to responsible gameplay and user safety.

Key transition dates:

  • August 26: Sweeps coins will no longer be accepted for gameplay or mail-in requests.
  • September 24: All sweeps coin redemptions will be fully disabled in the state.

New Jersey now joins a growing list of states—including ConnecticutDelawareMichigan, and New York—where VGW only permits Gold Coin play.

The company also noted the industry’s growing scrutiny across states. California is progressing on Assembly Bill 831, which would also prohibit sweepstakes casinos statewide.

Despite these changes, VGW stated its commitment to working with regulators nationwide to help shape modern frameworks that benefit both players and local governments.
